Newborn Session Workflow
At Sam Orlanes Creative Studio, we specialize in capturing the beauty and innocence of a newborn baby’s first days. We believe that these moments are precious and should be preserved in a timeless and classic way. We offer professional newborn photography services to parents wanting to capture those first moments of their little ones.
Our style is minimalist and classic, capturing the beauty and innocence of newborn babies. We also work with our clients to bring in props and collaborate on themed-sessions to create unique and special memories for them. To help you choose baby's sets, please use this workflow guide:
1st: Potato Sack Pose
The Potato Sack Pose is a cherished classic that beautifully showcases the charm of your newborn. We utilize a range of wraps and faux furs to ensure that your baby is both securely and comfortably supported in this pose. This technique allows us to capture your little one in various positions, including upright, side-lying, overhead, and angled shots.
We recommend this pose for babies less than two months old. At our studio, we recognize that babies enjoy being swaddled, which is why we always incorporate wrap sets into our workflow from the very beginning.
2nd: Prop Wrap Pose
Our Prop Wrap Pose beautifully highlights creativity. In this setup, the baby remains wrapped, but is now placed in a box, basket, wooden bowl, or bed for a distinctive flair. We have a wide selection of backdrops, including:
- Plain
- Textured abstract
- Wood prints
- Scenic views
- Floral designs
This pose allows us to capture those precious moments and transform them into stunning, timeless art. We have lots of props that we enjoy mixing and matching to create lovely sets for every baby.
3rd: Bucket Pose
On our bucket pose, your baby is carefully and safely posed inside the bucket to create beautiful and unique photos. To achieve a successful bucket pose, it is important that your baby is deeply asleep, and this pose may not be applicable to awake and fussy babies. If your baby won't settle, we can provide an alternative set instead.
4th-5th: Bed/Chair/Prop Pose
Our bed, chair, and prop poses are a wonderful way to showcase your baby's adorable features! We incorporate a range of props, including baskets, posing chairs, and beds, to craft stunning and imaginative images of your newborn. We can dress your baby in various outfits. With playful setups, we'll capture your little one looking charming, whether they're awake or asleep. The arrangements can be tailored to your preference, whether you favor a minimalist style or a more creative and styled approach.
6th: Blanket Pose
Blanket pose (a.k.a beanbag/table pose) is among our most beloved sets—and it happens to be my personal favorite! This setup beautifully highlights the softness and innocence of your newborn. Our focus is capturing your baby's tiny features with minimal or no props, ensuring we create timeless memories of your little one. You can choose to have these poses taken either with your baby dressed or in a natural, naked pose, depending on their comfort.
Family Portraits
Taking a family portrait during newborn photography session is truly meaningful. It marks the first official family photo as you welcome your newest member. This precious moment deserves to be cherished, so be sure not to let it slip away!

Our wall of light has always been our go-to setup for family portraits. Having family portraits captured in bright settings radiates joy, love, and warmth. These portraits not only capture a moment in time but also evoke feelings of happiness and togetherness for years to come.
Family Portrait in Solid Background
Our studio features stunning walls and a more spacious layout, making it an ideal setting for family portraits. Solid background colors have gained popularity among our clients, as they enhance the emotion and drama of the photos. We understand that each baby is unique and that's why we offer a session flow designed to be flexible according to the baby's mood and cooperation. We always strive to achieve the best poses and shots for your little one and family. Also, it is very important to entrust your baby to someone who is trained and experienced, as there are poses that are dangerous if done by an untrained and inexperienced photographer. That’s why I invested a lot on trainings and workshops to ensure I have the knowledge and skills to provide a safe and professional newborn photography service.
We believe that AGE DOES MATTER when it comes to newborn photography, which is why we recommend scheduling your session between 5-14 days old. During this time, babies still have that womb-like behavior and are able to achieve the best newborn poses.
